I don’t follow rules, I make them. I am the garden rock star.
I love gardening. I’ve been doing it longer than I have been able to walk. As I got older and began to see how many rules seemed to be associated with gardening I suddenly realized how stupid it was for anyone to think that I was actually going to pay attention to them. I’m anything but a follower.
I recently wrote the book I Garden: Urban Style with my friend and longtime collaborator Reggie Solomon, the founder of Tomato Casual and Urban Garden Casual and then decided that after years of being recognized as an expert in urban and community gardening, I was ready to return to my roots in a very profound way. You will see that new beginning playing out here on TGRS as I take on one of the biggest challenges of my life -shedding the glamorous urban life of the traditional rock star and becoming a real garden rock star.
On my new 10 acre homestead (known herein as The Farm), I will raise chickens, rabbits and goats in addition to a large scale garden. My goal is to return to the land as much as possible (within reason baby; daddy loves his air conditioning), growing and raising as much food as I can manage and preserving the harvest to sustain us through the cold months.
